Dr. Iyad Aljabi, M.D., PSC requested a facility to be designed which was uniqued and attractive to children. He felt the design should meet the functional needs of his facility and be aesthetically pleasing. The program called for the use of roughly half of the building, leaving the other half unfinished for a future tenant. Dr. Aljabi's space has 5 exam rooms with support areas, a large lobby and play area, and individual offices. Different materials, colors, textures, and angles were introduced in the design to offer minor complexities. The shadow lines of the materials and skewed walls offered the exterior texture. The use of a translucent roof panel over the lobby floods the space with natural light. A curved wall in this space offers a "secluded" play area. Glass blocks at the ends of the corridors provide natural light with required privacy. Vaulted ceilings and celerestory windows in the private office give the feeling of immense space to a modest room. The design of both the plan and exterior proved to be very pleasing to the physicians, staff, and patients.
